MR in Radiotherapy 2023
This course is intended for radiation oncologists, radiologists, residents, medical physicists, and radiation therapists/technologists who want to learn about the application of MRI for radiotherapy.
Course format
The course will run from 28 February through 1 April.
This is a hybrid course. Most of the content will be offered as e-learning modules and/or recorded lectures. These will be made available through https://www.mrinradiotherapy.com at the start of the course and can be followed at your own convenience. The course ends with 3 days in Utrecht. During these days there will be lectures, Q&A sessions, clinical implementation workshops, planning/contouring workshops and MRI sequence development workshops. In addition, there will also be demonstrators of workflows on the MRI Simulators and MR-Linac.
There is a wide variety of technical and clinical topics. You can choose to take a deep dive into the topics most relevant to you and only take the essentials from topics less relevant to your needs.
Course content
- Modules
General modules on the basics of MR physics, and theory on commonly-used MR techniques. The physics of an MR-Linac, e.g. system design, commissioning, QA. Additionally, a wide range of clinical radiotherapy applications will be presented for both MR-based conventional linac treatments as well as MR-Linac workflows. These modules will be made available at the start of the course and can be followed at your own pace during the following weeks.
- Interactive sessions
The course will start with a live introduction and presentation. Following this we will help you get set up for the course. In the following weeks there will be opportunities for interaction in dedicated Q&A sessions.
- Live course in Utrecht
The final part of the course takes place at our radiotherapy department in the University Medical Center Utrecht. During these days there will be:
-
- Lectures
- Q&A sessions
- Clinical implementation workshop
- Contouring/planning workshop (optional)
- MRI sequence development workshop (optional)
- Workflow demonstrators on MRI Simulators and MR-Linacs
The lectures and Q&A sessions can also be followed online and will be recorded and made available afterwards, this is not possible for the workshops and demonstrators
- Optional workshop: Contouring/Planning
Some of our expert radiation oncologists/RTTs will demonstrate how they use MRI images to delineate all relevant structures. You will have the opportunity to delineate MRI images yourself on a web-based delineation platform. And use these delineations to adapt a treatment plan. During the course days in Utrecht, there will be opportunity to evaluate and discuss the results.
- Optional workshop: Introduction to MRI protocol development
This module will cover some background of MR protocols and will be centered around practical sessions on MR simulators working with MR protocols. Participants will learn about the function and interactions of several key parameters in the protocols.
This module is best suited for radiation therapists/technologists and physicists and consists of 2 sessions of ~2,5 hours (30/3 & 31/3).
